Today, I was thinking about desires. The things we want. Why do we want? I may want to eat an apple because my body craves the nourishment. I may want to write because I crave the creative process. I may want to call or visit a friend because I crave connection. I may want to ... because... But why do I want? I think that is our Higher Selves, Our Source, the Holy Spirit, or just wisdom pulling or inviting us to grow, improve, expand, be more. I think a flower desires sunshine so much that it moves itself to face the sun. I think following that pull is what makes us grow. I'm not talking about the petty desires of our lower natures, like sexual passions, gluttony, greed, or revenge. I mean the higher desires like to help others, to create, to love, to improve. I think we desire because we have to grow to get it. Just like a flower grows closer to the sun, I think our desires cause us to grow closer to our Source.
