The first time we love a stranger, we're not talking about family here, it's all consuming. We become obsessed. We make them our whole world. That love doesn't last. It can't. It's mostly imagination and expectation. It may become more and it may not. But during our lives, we love many times. I've noticed each time we love someone, we get better at it. We learn to be selfless, to think of the other. Every pain we've experienced make us better able to understand other people. Loving someone else means accepting them as they are, not for what we want them to be. But we don't recognize this when we first start loving. It's something we have to learn. I can love another person so much better now than I did when I was younger.
